Tourism and hospitality sector: Get ready for July reopening

Tourism Secretary Fergus Ewing has told tourism and hospitality businesses to ready themselves for re-opening on July 15, as he announced a task force to focus on recovery of the tourism sector

This is the date when Scotland is expected to move into the third phase of easing lockdown measures, and any change is conditional on this date being met.

He said the new task force would focus on the sector’s recovery requirements, actions of the UK Government and the development of a new visitor marketing campaign, despite unprecedented challenges.

Mr Ewing said: “The coronavirus pandemic has presented challenges across the entirety of the Scottish economy, but it is very clear there are exceptional circumstances facing this sector that must be recognised.

“We have acted as quickly as we can to address the significant financial challenges faced by businesses and provide a comprehensive package of support.”
