For one night only – the ‘most haunted’ house of Forres gets lit up for charity

You can hear it before you see it… the ghoulish cackling of witches, the ominous sound of detached limbs scuttling across the road, and the deep, dark laughter you only get when you’ve passed the point of no return.

As if by some sort of spooky magic, when I walked through the driveway of 48 Twinning Link for the Stewart family’s annual Halloween display, there was a loud crash, and a cauldron holding the bubbling remains of a witch rolled out in front of me. Did I spook the spookers, or were the spookers trying to spook me!

It turned out to be nothing more than an animated toy, powered by a fresh set of batteries that just couldn’t contain itself on the shelf, or that’s what I told myself. The writhing legs sticking from the top, and the bubbling bat’s blood were all part of the special effects. This is clearly the place where things go bump in the night!

For many years now, Pauline Stewart and her family have covered their house with colourful, animated decorations, attracting visitors from all around the area.

She said: “There’s a queue down the street when we open up for Halloween. The children love it. This year, we have a lucky dip for £1 and will be taking donations on behalf of Cash for Kids.”

Pop along… if you dare!

Open from 6pm on Thursday 31 October. Lucky dip £1, cash only. Further donations welcome.
