Forres blooms on with another town gold and a community champion award for Barry Ashby

Forres has continued its unstinting ability to pick up awards for its floral displays. It has once again won a town gold at the 2024 Britain in Bloom awards, this time competing with towns all over the UK.

Volunteer Barry Ashby has also picked up a Community Champion award in the national competition. He can most often be found tending to the Mosset rose beds.

The results were announced today (21 October) after being shortlisted in January.

Earlier this year Forres in Bloom was one of four groups put forward to represent Scotland in the UK-wide RHS Britain in Bloom finals.

In 2023, the volunteer group scooped the top award – the prestigious Rosebowl alongside North Berwick in Bloom – as well as the Community Horticulture Award and the Medium Town Category in the Beautiful Scotland initiative, and was pitched this year against four other finalists in England for the town category.

According to its website, Britain in Bloom inspires community groups in towns, cities and villages to make positive changes to their local environment through horticultural, environmental and community action.

Like all contenders, Forres in Bloom is active all year round, and the work of Forres’s volunteers is widely recognised by the whole town and the displays draw in visitors from near and far.

Bath won the overall award.

Well done all, you did it again.
