Twelve years on the high street for fair trade gift shop

Babalu, the alternative gift shop that draws customers from as far afield as Wales is celebrating its 12th birthday on Saturday.

Laura Hanson, who runs the shop with her husband Richard, says the secret to her success is in the range of gifts not available from the average high street shop.

“We buy fairtrade stock from wholesalers around the world from countries such as Indonesia, Thailand and India.”

“On Saturday, there’ll be 50% off all jewellery, including silver, and 20 per cent off all other stock.”

“There’ will be cake, raffles, and sugary treats from Philp’s Fine Food, Kilted Fudge Company Ltd and The High Vibe Vegan Kitchen.”
