More than 20 cars clamped in Forres after DVLA visits town with ‘spy’ camera

The presence of the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) has been felt in Forres over the last few days after its ANPR vehicle came to visit and a number of cars were clamped.

ANPR stands for Automatic Number Plate Recognition and is able to read number plates and check taxation status on a national database. We understand they were targeting cars that had no tax or SORN.

We contacted the DVLA and a spokesperson said: “As part of their day-to-day enforcement DVLA’s national wheel-clamping partner, NSL, clamps or impounds any untaxed vehicles.  We can confirm that 22 untaxed vehicles were clamped in Forres.”

  1. As far as I am concerned, this has to be a good thing. No tax or no SORN = no valid insurance. No insurance means that, like my son, when his car was written off by an uninsured and untaxed driver, he lost not only the car, but his job. So, YAY to the DVLA. The more that are caught the better. NO excuse whatsoever. I had a friend who boasted about no insurance or tax. I pointed out, if they were involved in a RTC who would pay the rest of life care if anyone had life changing injuries, including them. No reason for anyone, if they do, to moan about being caught whatsoever.
