The former Tesco supermarket site which has lain empty for 20 years has planning permission for 48 houses. Two signboards have appeared at the site, one on the corner of Gordon Street and Lea Road and the other attached to a wall on Caroline Street, formerly a blacksmiths building. The agent is Rennie Property Consultants in Inverness.

In 2002, Tesco opened a new store on Nairn Road, and Redco Milne set out plans to build a commercial development, which was widely rejected by the people of Forres.
