Former Tesco site goes up for sale with permission for housing development

A piece of land near the centre of town which has been earmarked for residential development has been put up for sale.

The former Tesco supermarket site which has lain empty for 20 years has planning permission for 48 houses. Two signboards have appeared at the site, one on the corner of Gordon Street and Lea Road and the other attached to a wall on Caroline Street, formerly a blacksmiths building. The agent is Rennie Property Consultants in Inverness.

The site was granted planning permission in March this year after appeal, to build 48 affordable homes on the site which connects the former Tesco site with wasteland across the road at Caroline Street and Lea Road. The application was made by St Machar Properties.

In 2002, Tesco opened a new store on Nairn Road, and Redco Milne set out plans to build a commercial development, which was widely rejected by the people of Forres.
