A young couple have scooped up the chance to take over a business on the high street selling ice cream and other sweet treats.

Calum Sinclair (26) and Alexandra Pereira (24) have moved into The Wee Icy at 116 High Street, and say it was their passion for ice cream and a desire to run their own shop drove them to seize the opportunity.

Calum said: “Alexandra and i have always wanted to own our own shop and we both love ice cream! The shop was lying empty and not being used so we decided to take our chance when we could.”

“We love coming up with different ideas, so for example this Halloween we have pre-filled goody bags. Due to Covid some people still don’t feel safe going door to door. Or they can also be delivered by the ‘Evil Minion’.

Calum and Alexandra took the keys last month, redecorated it and opened to the public at the beginning of October.

The Wee Icy now sells sandwiches, Rizza ice cream, bubble waffles, cookie bites, crepes and warm chocolate cake along with specials, Fanta frozen, sweets and juice.

“We have more than 50 flavours of ice cream,” he added.

Calum was a supervisor for Security and Cleaning teams for six years before he decided to start his own business.

“I used to live in Forres many moons ago and still love it. The locals are supportive, friendly and I couldn’t ask for anything more,” he said.
