A knitter who made three postbox toppers ahead of the Erskine Veterans’ Activity Centre opening in Forres is appealing for information after three woollen figures appear to have been cut from their base this morning (Wednesday 11 December).
The three service personnel that topped the postbox next to the Mercat Cross represented the Army, the Navy and the RAF.
Each topper features tributes to heroes and veterans and have the Erskine branding as a base.
Kay Ford, who made the toppers with two other yarn bombers from Forres and Nairn for postboxes at the town centre, sorting office and St Catherine’s Road, is deeply disappointed to see it destroyed after only being up for 24 hours.
The missing one was reported to us at Forres Local and we contacted Kay, who said: “That’s so disappointing. They [the figures] weren’t even mine, I’d borrowed them from another yarnbomber in Nairn.
“They were attached with yarn but knotted firmly so it would need scissors or a knife to remove them.”
Passer-by Graham Alexander said: “It was there at 0800 this morning (Wednesday).”
Kay added: “Each individual figure takes hours of work but we do them gladly for no reward other than knowing that people enjoy seeing them.”
