Moray Waste Busters has reached capacity at its Waterford site and is looking to expand into additional premises under cover, and with space for community groups.
The charity, which resells unwanted items, largely on an open air site, is proposing that the new facility would have a cafe, be open into the evenings, have space for other community groups, host upcycling workshops, share and repair projects, educational visits and a wider range of reusable items.
A post on Facebook today said: “We are growing quickly, and it is time to expand into an additional outlet.
“The opportunity to take our activities to the next level would bring even more benefits to the community.
“We would be keeping our site at Waterford, which would focus more on collections and sorting.
“Strathcona House on the Enterprise Park (pictured) in Forres has become available and we are approaching the Scottish Land Fund for support in acquiring it. They would love to hear the community’s thoughts on the project in support of our application.
The proposal has attracted considerable comments on its Facebook post where they are seeking further feedback from the public: https://www.facebook.com/moraywastebusters
Great place for recycling, helps the environment but also helps people who have a limited income or on a low budget. Cracking pieces of furniture, household items, crickery etc. as well as bicycles for all ages. Its a win win facility.
Certainly support Moray Waste Busters.
Keep up the good work.
What a wonderful idea. It is a great place to go to and a cafe sounds good too.
We always call Moray Waste busters the “communal loft”, whatever we’re looking for we generally find to help with our efforts to support local jobs and reduce waste. The current site is busting out at the seams, yet well managed by friendly staff. Yes, a bigger and more diverse site would be a wonderful move and judging by how busy the current site is, would be well supported in the Forres area.
This is a fantastic service to the wider community. We live in Mosstodloch & take donations there often & have bought things to upcycle or renovate too. A bigger site for people to buy good quality second hand stuff has to be a good idea.
