A Forres business is celebrating 50 years of trade in the town this week.
House furnishers and flooring company TD Logie is a familiar sight for anyone entering the high street from the west, with its castellated building and large showroom windows.
And this week, three generations of the Logie family celebrated the milestone and revisited some of their history as a town centre business.
Founded in 1973 by Tom Logie and his wife Iris, they established themselves in Tytler Street, where Andrew Smith Funeral Directors is now. They moved to their current premises in Bridge Street five years later.
In their half-century, they have trained seven apprentice floor layers, five of of which have gone on to work for themselves, with one currently still in training.
They have helped to furnish new developments in the town such as Thornhill, Forbeshill, Sanquhar and Knockomie, and continue to be a friendly, local choice.
Family business
TD Logie is a true family business, Tom and Iris’ son Allan has now taken over the day-to-day operation, and employ their own son Scott.
Tom said the thing they enjoy most is being able to deliver a reliable service to local customers. Their radius is generally 25 to 30 miles – that includes Nairn, Burghead, Lossie and Elgin, although they have been called on to furnish houses as far away as the Isle of Skye and Erskine.
“We keep prices reasonable, and help returning customers with their ideas and needs. We don’t have sales or gimmicks.
“The most important element for us has always been meeting the customers and keeping them happy.”
