Swimming lessons and sports coaching activities to restart in Forres

Swimming lessons and sports coaching will restart in Forres later this month as Moray Council begins re-opening leisure services in Moray.

Swimming lessons will resume from 19 October however there will be a reduction in the amount of learners allowed in the pool at any one time. National guidance does not permit swimming teachers to teach in the water yet due to social distancing restrictions, therefore beginners classes will not restart in the first block.

Council leisure staff will make contact with previous lesson participants who can be offered a space – customers are urged to not contact the facility, but to wait for a call from the leisure team. All previous lesson participants will be offered a place in the lesson programme but, due to reduced capacity and national restrictions, this may not be in the first or second block.

Sports coaching for children and young people will resume from the start of the new school term (26 October) at Forres House, Lossiemouth and Elgin Community Centres. All those who have signed up for previous sports development activities will get an email when booking for activities open and more information, including timetables, will shortly be available on Moray Council’s website.

Changes

Exercise classes in Forres have been relocated to Forres House Community Centre from their current base at the swimming pool to allow classes to resume, including Body Combat, Kettlebells, Metafit and Abs (core HIIT). Contact Forres House Community Centre on 01309 672838 for more information.

Moray Council’s Sport & Leisure Manager, Ken Brown, has welcomed the return of so many valued customers to the council’s leisure facilities.

“It’s been great to see so many familiar faces, and customers are responding really well to the safety measures we have in place. We want to reassure residents that they can be confident we’re taking all necessary precautions to allow them and their families to exercise safely.

“We’re thrilled to now be in a position to offer more leisure services, including sports coaching and swimming lessons – which we know so many people have been waiting patiently for. Thanks to all our customers and FitLife? members for continuing to support their local pools, community centres and fitness rooms.”
