A Forres woman whose missing cat came home on Easter Sunday with horrific injuries has launched a GoFundMe page to help pay for the extensive veterinary treatment needed.
Boots went missing on 28 March, and after a worrying 12 days for Rebecca Richardson and her family, he finally turned up on Sunday 9 April, with multiple fractures and open wounds.
Rebecca described his return in this condition as a miracle, and listed his injuries:
- Broken tail at the base, and will need to be amputated.
- Left leg broken
- Jaw broken in two with open fracture
- Right eye socket broken and loss of sight in that eye
- Bleed on the back of his eye
She said: “Boots is doing well but has extensive injuries unfortunately, and he will be at the vet for some time to get better.
“The vet doesn’t think this was caused by a car or vehicle as the injuries could have been over a period of time and not consistent to a car accident.
“The way Boots smelt when he came in was similar to an oily shed or garage.
After emergency treatment on his jaw, Rebecca was able to see Boots and get a cuddle.
“I cried my eyes out of course, but he was so happy to get a cuddle and the loudest I’ve ever heard him purr. He’s eating and drinking. He was badly dehydrated so is on a drip.
“I dread to think what he’s been through over these couple of weeks. Bless his heart,” she added.
Rebecca has now set up a GoFundMe page to raise £2500 to help her with the unexpected bill.
She explained the family got Boots when he was only a tiny kitten the day they moved down from Shetland to come and live in Forres. He is now 6 years old and known for his spectacular long tail, rather large ears and famous appetite.
Rebecca also wanted to thank everyone for the kind messages and support while he was missing.
“He still needs to get his tail amputated and has a long way go. If you are able to help Boots. It would mean everything to us.”
