A Forres shop owner who has been a mainstay of the town centre and business champion has announced her retirement.
Pearl Hamilton is well known as the owner of Pearl’s Pet Care, established more than 40 years ago in Kinloss and with a popular shop on Tolbooth Street for the last quarter of a century. She has also been a keen supporter of local businesses and representative of the FSB (Federation of Small Businesses).
In her retirement statement she said: “Reflecting on a lifetime of service, after decades of dedication and hard work, I have announced my retirement, a journey that began with my first paid employment when I was just 12 years old.
“My career has been woven through the fabric of a crofting upbringing, private service, hospitality, retail, and most dear to my heart, establishing and running our family business since 1982.
“Looking back, I am filled with gratitude for the many roles I have embraced and the countless people I have had the privilege to meet and serve. What started as humble beginnings with chores on the croft, working in private service blossomed into a rich and varied path. I found my passion for hospitality—creating warm welcomes and memorable experiences—and developed skills that shaped my sense of commitment and community.
“Establishing PEARL’S (Pet Care) in 1982 marked a new chapter, one that brought both challenges and fulfilment. Through economic ups and downs, changing trends, and the daily joys and trials of entrepreneurship. I have been fortunate to work alongside family, loyal staff, excellent suppliers and their respected delivery persons and our cherished customers and clients. Each day brought new lessons, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together.
“As I retire, I carry with me many fond memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. I am deeply thankful to everyone — family, friends, colleagues, suppliers, customers and clients — who supported, trusted, and encouraged me along this journey. I intend to continue with my Pet & House-Sitting Service – our bespoke, distance no object, discreet service of taking care when owners cannot be there.
