Shakespeare mentioned Forres in his dramatic story of King Macbeth. But not everyone knows of the real historic connections the 17th Century king had with this Royal Burgh.
A blood-letting slayer he was not, and in fact, quite the opposite, and recently the town celebrates and rejoices in its connection with Macbeth.
Between Forres and Brodie, a raised part of the landscape known as Macbeth’s Hillock, is sad to be the location where the three witches foretold the rise and fall of the king.
Ancient historical town
Forres is one of Scotland’s oldest small towns, and also one of its most attractive.
Situated just off the A96 about 27 miles east of the Highland capital of Inverness, the town’s impressive parks and gardens with outstanding floral sculptures have led to many awards from the prestigious Britain and Scotland in Bloom competitions.
