Twenty years and counting – Rotarians tot up £140k fund as quiz hits 20-year milestone

The Rotary Club of Forres is gearing up for a bumper 20th anniversary quiz night in the Mosset Tavern this year.

More than £140,000 has been raised over two decades for Children in Need and other children-related causes.

The quiz night started as a fundraiser in 1999 and for one team already booked for this year, it has been an unmissable event.

Brian Higgs and wife Sarah from Rafford have entered a team every year since the quiz started.

Brian said: “Is it really 20 years? It only seems like yesterday, I thought it was going to be a one-off, but after we raised a good amount at the first event, we decided to run it again the following year, and the rest is history.”

A momentous event

Rotarian Carlo Miele, who has been on the organising committee since the start, said: “Twenty years really is a landmark, and I’m proud that it’s been able to raise so much over the years for children’s charities. Every year, people of Forres have done us proud and turned out to support the good work of the Children in Need which has raised more than a £1 billion, and we’ve split the funds to help smaller local charities that maybe aren’t able to tap into those resources.

“This year, we’re hoping everyone can pull out all the stops and make it a momentous event to remember.

“We’re inviting teams of four and tables are limited. We’re expecting a good turnout at the Mosset Tavern this year. We’ve got the usual prize of £400 for the winner, and this is typically given back to the charity, but this year, we’ve got some spot prizes, although we’re keeping these under wraps for the moment.”

The quiz night is at 7pm on 15 November at the Mosset Tavern. Entry is free if your team makes a donation of £100 or more. To enter a team, email pudsey@forresrotary.co.uk
