Public invited to ‘get involved in preserving and celebrating town’s unique heritage’

The Forres Conservation and Heritage Scheme (FCHS) invites the local community to its launch event on Friday 12 September 2025 at Forres Town Hall.

From 4.30pm to 6pm, residents are encouraged to pop in, explore the scheme’s projects, and learn how to get involved. The event offers a chance to discover opportunities for grants, heritage conservation initiatives, and ways to engage with the individual projects.

The scheme has secured nearly £1.8 million in funding, including £790,000 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s Grants for Heritage scheme and £980,000 from Historic Environment Scotland’s Heritage & Place Scheme.

Developed over the past year with input from the community, many of its initiatives come directly from ideas and priorities suggested by local residents, making sure the scheme reflects what matters most to the people of Forres. This includes support for a wide range of projects to preserve Forres’ heritage, improve public spaces, and create opportunities for learning and community engagement.

More details on all the projects and grants available can be found on the Moray Council newsroom.

Getting involved

Moray Council Leader, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “We’re thrilled to see the Forres Conservation and Heritage Scheme come to life. This is a fantastic opportunity for local residents to get involved in preserving and celebrating Forres’ unique heritage. From improving historic buildings to creating new community spaces, these projects will make a real difference to the town and its people.

“I’d encourage everyone to come along to the launch event on 12 September, explore the projects, and find out how you can get involved, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and contribute to.”

Chair of the Forres Conservation and Heritage Scheme Partnership Management Group, George Alexander, said: “Reaching the delivery stage of the Forres Conservation and Heritage Scheme is an important milestone, and one that belongs to the whole community. These projects are about more than preserving the past – they’re about shaping a vibrant future for Forres, together with the community. I’d encourage everyone to join us at the launch event on 12 September, to discover what’s planned and see how you can be part of this exciting journey.”

Is the information going to be up at the Townhall for a while? Hope so! A timetabked regular service bus to Findhorn including some evening times would be great.
