140-year-old ‘Nancy Animata’ is taking girl-power from Forres to The Netherlands

The bedazzling House of Automata is open for the 2025 season, cultivating curiosity with its clockwork creations and amazing animatronics

But it’s also the last chance to see Nancy, the life-size breathing lady, at least for a while.

She’s off on her travels for six months, on loan to the Design Museum Den Bosch in The Netherlands.

Despite being 140 years old ‘Nancy’ will be a working exhibit in the exhibition ‘Women as Technology’, alongside female robots from Japan and America. The items in the exhibition are on loan from many of the world’s major museums so Nancy is particularly proud to have a prominent role in portraying female technology in action. She has a total of 16 different movements.

You can follow Nancy on her Facebook as ‘Nancy Animata

The exhibition and shop are open at 32 High Street, Forres (behind Under The Leaves bookshop):

  • Thursday and Friday: 10am to 4pm
  • Saturday: 10am to 1pm.
