Findhorn businessman Simon Paterson has one of the best views in the UK, and this week, he opened it up to allow visitors to wake up to it every morning.
He, and wife Katrina have a ‘parade’ of businesses overlooking Findhorn Bay including the Captain’s Table, Captain’s Parlour and North 58 Sea Adventures. They also run the Crown and Anchor pub in the village, and the Abbey Inn in Kinloss.
Now they have opened up a spare bit of land to create Captain’s Campers, a motorhome ‘aire’ looking over the bay.
And they found themselves fully booked in less than a week.
Simon explained: “We used to be in the caravan club years ago, and we loved going to small sites with five vans or less. So we wanted to recreate that, and motorhomes are the thing now.
“It just made sense. Where else can you get a view like this? And it seems a shame to have this and not use it for something.
“It’s fantastic for the village, and for the local economy. The average spend of a motorhome is £47 per day – that’s between fuel, food, hospitality, and attractions.
“You’ve got walks, dog walk areas, you’re right on the beach. There’s the attractions of Findhorn. It’s just a great place to be. And the benefit being here is that you’re in a busy place, but in a quiet location.
Simon added that Campra, the Campaign for Real Aires UK had been supportive in setting up.
“They’ve been fantastic. They’ve helped us every single step of the way, so it’s been very straightforward.”
With space for a maximum of five vans for three nights, Simon expects to extend the facilities.
At the moment they have drinking water, wifi, black waste, grey waste and a toilet. Plans are to put in a shower, dishwasher, laundry, and potentially a sauna and spa.
Price is £15 a night with the option of electric hook-up at £3. For more information, and booking calendar, go to http://www.findhornmarina.com/motorhome.html

Please don’t make it have to many bells and whistles. Showers etc. So many Campervan etc owners are just looking for simple stopovers costing about £15 at most. The new Aire there is far too expensive for us single travellers who don’t need anything more than a pit stop. I’ve been coming to Findhorn for 25+ years with a Campervan and eating at the Captains Table. I now no longer go as there is height barriers and expensive stopovers. I would stay here as it is. Perfect.
Would be great to have the basics at a reasonable rate and pay extra for extras…
Try to Visit Findorn a couple of times a year, and use the Trust site which is 1st class.
This additional site is great news. Thank you
We bought a moterhome last year to travel around the uk but so many caravan parks are so expensive to pay under £20. Per night is great
Including electric hook up is great
We will be booking in very soon my dog will love that beach for his early morning walk
Well done to everyone involved in setting up this location
