Town centre businesses in Forres have funded a new leaflet which ‘draws’ on the popular caricature style of a local creative couple.
A Day Out in Forres features 22 local businesses, and has been made with the help of Ewen Watson and Sathya Schlösser, who also created the children’s book Fantastic Forres.
Illustrator Sathya’s caricature style has also been used in other places and is quickly becoming synonymous with the town.
However, it was an idea from a local business owner which started the ball rolling.
Ewen Watson explains: “Laura Hanson from Babalu came up with the initial idea of creating a map leaflet about local businesses. She shared her thoughts with John and Dörte from Under the Leaves bookshop who approached us about creating it as they liked the style of our Fantastic Forres children’s book.
“The leaflet is being distributed across Moray by Landmark Press and also by the businesses who are involved themselves. There is also a digital version that can by found on the Visit Forres website.
“The leaflet was funded by the participating businesses who had various pricing tiers to choose from.”
Sathya added: “The leaflet is aimed at everyone who wants to have a nice day out in Forres! Either people passing through or locals who don’t know about the amazing range of shops in the town.
“The response had been great! All of the businesses were very complimentary about the finished product. I think people will really like reading it. Some of the participating businesses like Stitch It & Fix It are outside of the town centre and we’re really happy to have a new way of promoting their work.
Ewen said they are planning to do a new version every year and would encourage any local businesses who are interested in participating to get in touch with them at fantasticforres@gmail.com
