The Scout Post is back in Forres for the 2022 Christmas season. It was last held in 2019, but paused, like everything, for Covid.
Postboxes will be put into various town centre locations around the town, and charges will be very reasonable 30p per card.
The postboxes will be at the following locations from 3 December:
- Wrights Home Hardware, High Street
- Forres House Community Centre, High Street
- Forres Co-op, High Street
- McColl’s, Fleurs Road
- Tesco, Nairn Road
- Lidl, Greshop Industrial Estate
- Mackenzie and Cruickshank, Greshop Industrial Estate
Secretary of 1st Forres Scout Group, Louise Berry, said: “We are keeping the price at our 2019 amount of 30p per card. Cards and the relevant donation should be placed in a bag before posting in one of our boxes.
“We’re very grateful to the local businesses for continuing to support, and hope that the folk of Forres will be happy to see us back.”
“We only deliver to Forres, so within the town boundaries. Not Dyke, Brodie or Kinloss for example. And it’s Christmas cards only. Most of the deliveries are done on foot. We encourage our young people to do the deliveries as it’s a great way for them to connect with the community.”
The post boxes will be removed on 16 December and the Scouts will deliver the mail after that.
Plea for ‘neckers’ to be returned
The Scouts are running low on their supply of neckerchiefs for new members and appealing for anyone with a tartan ‘necker’ to return it.
Did you know that the garments, commonly known as ‘neckers’ worn by the Forres Scouts is the Brodie tartan?
Ninian, Brodie of Brodie, gave his permission for the group to wear the tartan, replacing the old grey and blue items, to commemorate the group’s 1991 trip to Germany and all members have proudly worn the Brodie tartan since.
Secretary Louise Berry said: “The pattern is not one that is easily sourced, our usual provider cannot promise a new run for delivery before May 2023 at the earliest. We are now down to our last few neckers and with new members joining us we are quickly getting to a place where we cannot give them a necker.”
“Have you been a Scout in Forres? Do you still have your necker? Could you donate it back to your old group so that today’s and tomorrow’s members can wear the necker with pride?
“If you have and you can, please bring your necker to the hut in Bank Lane on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday evenings or, failing that, just put it in an envelope and post it through our letter box.”
