Forres pies amongst best in Scotland as bakeries bring home medals in head-to-head

Next time you buy a pie in Forres, the chances are you’ll be tasting one of the best in Scotland, as two high street bakers in Forres have just picked up a haul of medals for their pies and bakery items in this year’s World Championship Scotch Pie Awards.

Maclean’s Highland Bakery won gold for its Scotch Pie, closely followed with a bronze by Asher’s Bakery, based in Nairn, but with a popular shop in Forres high street.

The two local bakeries were pitched against 70 other companies competing for the grand title of World Scotch Pie Champion.

Local bakeries are no stranger to awards for their pies and bakes, and the two also won several other accolades for its savoury and sweet selections.

Maclean’s won the World Championship Scotch Pie title in 2003, with butchers Murdoch Brothers winning the top title in 2010.

Macleans Highland Bakery

  • Scotch Pie – Gold
  • Macaroni Pie – Bronze
  • Hot Savoury – Silver (Fajita Beef Pie)

Ashers Bakery

  • Scotch Pie – Bronze
  • Apple Pie – Silver
  • Cold Savoury – Bronze (Pork and Black Pudding Cocktail Sausage Rolls)
  • Macaroni Pie – Gold
  • Hot savoury – Gold (Steak Slice)
