Forres House opens for socially distanced blood donations (and tea and biscuits)

Forres House Community Centre will open specially on Tuesday 2 June when the Blood Transfusion Service rolls into town for the day.

It will likely become the only place in town you can go for a sit-in cup of tea and a biscuit, the famed reward for giving away a pint of your blood.

Visitors can be assured that social distancing measures are in place and appointments will be required to attend.

A spokesperson for the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Services (SNBTS) said: “We need to welcome about 170 donors on the day to help sustain current blood stocks.

“Giving blood has now been classified as ‘essential travel’ and we have taken social distancing measures etc into account for all of our donor sessions.

“Although our stocks are stable at the moment, demand is likely to increase in the coming weeks as routine operations and cancer treatments requiring blood are starting to be reintroduced in hospitals.”

The sessions run from 1:50pm to 4:20pm and 5:50pm to 8pm. Appointments can be made by calling 0345 90 90 999 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm)
