Flash floods cause disruption to roads and power in Forres

Flash floods caused havoc in Forres last night as sudden downpours overwhelmed roads and disrupted power supplies around the town.

Power was interrupted in Knockomie, Thornhill and Pilmuir. Tesco closed at around 8:30pm after their electricity supply was interrupted.

Thunderstorms were forecast by the Met Office and SEPA issued a flood alert for the Findhorn, Nairn and Lossie rivers.

Residents placed sandbags where water threatened to encroach their properties and many took to Facebook to express their experiences of the sudden deluge.

“Councillor’s Walk, Fire Station side shut off with cones looks like drain has come up from the road.”

“Power out Pilmuir Road West.”

“Thought the flood alleviation scheme sorted a lot of that out.? Popping drains, well that’s not good.”

“That’s crazy hope everyone stays safe.”

And out favourite comment from the evening: “Power’s out near Noahs Ark.”

Rain has continued into Wednesday, but started to clear at midday.
