John Scott: Nelson’s public secretary – A talk by Rev John Maynard

Rev John Maynard is a member of The Nelson Society which was formed to promote interest in and appreciation of the character and life of Admiral Lord Nelson.

John Scott was born is August 1764, the son of a tenant farmer on the Gordon Castle Estate.

He became a friend and confidant to Lord Nelson and of whom he is quoted as saying “My Secretary, I esteem a Treasure. He is not only a clever man, but indefatigable in his business, and an extraordinarily well-behaved modest man.”

  • Talks start at 7.30pm in the Tolbooth Courtroom
  • Doors open 6:45pm
  • Tickets £5, available online and at the door (cash or card)
  • Refreshments will be served after the presentation.
