Enterprising baker expands with new sit-down and takeaway service

A baker who has proved he has the recipe for success has moved into bigger premises offering sit-down and takeaway snacks and bakes.

Chris Gair has been running Bakes You Knead from his home in Forres for the last two years, building up a reputation for traditionally-baked butteries and other sweet and savoury bakes.

His business has grown through word of mouth, and scrumptious pictures on social media.

Now he hopes that a move to a bigger kitchen and a seated eating area will be a natural evolution for his business as it expands.

Chris said: “It’s a big move into a bigger kitchen with the added bonus of a wee shop as well. I look forward to the challenge.

“I offer a wide range of baked goods from savoury to sweet, and a big range of gluten-free and other dietary requirements when asked for.”

Traditional butteries

Chris spent more than 30 years in the hospitality industry managing bars and restaurants. But it’s his butteries that have tickled the taste buds of his customers.

“A lot of butteries are made with oil, and I have always followed a traditional recipe using butter. That makes them flaky and crisp, just how they should be. This is how Bakes You Knead got noticed,” he added.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge. Forres offers plenty of opportunities and I’m hoping people will come to the enterprise Park and see what’s on offer.”

Bakes you Knead operates from Fresh Horizons on the Forres Enterprise Park, from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday. There is a large seating area, and it’s open to the general public.
